Teacup Farm is the name we (Melanie and Granville Pool) gave to our small (2.5-acre or so) property in Redwood Valley, California, USA. It's surrounded by large vineyard properties that grow a variety of wine grapes. On our "farm" we don't actually grow much except flowers and chickens (and their eggs, of course), along with a few fruit trees, table grapes, berries, etc.. We used to put in a vegetable garden but the free-range chickens put an end to that. We tried growing melons, pumpkins, squashes, and gourds, one year. That was fun but the water usage requirements were way too high. The many large oak trees on our property limit the available sun for many plants. However, their shade is most welcome during the intense summer heat we sometimes enjoy. Of course, we have the mandatory dog (a mutt, naturally, named Rosie) and cats (currently down to just two, Figaro & Sophie). Update! On Election Day, November 2008, after casting our votes, we went to the local Humane Society shelter (THE place to get a pet) and adopted Mikey because he insisted. A few months later, sadly, Figaro died. We got two new kittens to help fill the huge void his loss created. The new butterscotch siblings are Daisy and Wolfie. We are empty nesters but get to enjoy a lot of quality time with our grandchildren, Deven and Madeline (dba Maddie), who live nearby. |
