TEAM DOUHERTY'S Paintball Page

In the fall and winter we like to play paintball. This is an activity that keeps you on your toes. It is an advanced version of capture the flag where you shoot the other team with a ball of paint fired from a paintball gun. Those who are politically correct call it a paintball "marker" and you "mark"  the opponent, not shoot them. I call it like I see it. It is a gun. Look at it. What do you think?

It looks like a gun to me. When you pull the trigger a projectile comes out. That is my gun. It is a Tippmann 98 custom.

Regardless, this is a great way to exercise and have fun. It develops team building, a sense of fair play and friendship. I have met a lot of people playing paintball, everyone is friendly, not war mongers like some people think.

We usually play woodsball at Cobra Command in Hatfield, PA. Woods ball or "Rec", short for recreation, Ball is played in the woods just like when you played army when you where a kid. Except no one says you missed me when you yell "bang!". They and you know when they are hit. They feel and see it. There are a couple of games like capture the flag and elimination we like to play.  Cobra Command is a great field to play. Norm, the owner, is a great guy and tells it like it is. His prices are reasonable $20.00 to play if you have your own equipment and $35.00 a case field paint. What more could you ask for? Well he has more expensive paint for you people who want to pay more but I do not see the sense in this when the cheap stuff works for me. Your just as out when I hit you with a $0.0175 paintball as you are with a $0.0325 one. When his fields were in Skippack, PA my favorite field was "wookie" but alas it is not there any more. Rumor has it, someone built a golf course. But now his fields are in Hatfield and getting better all the time, but no "wookie".  The only things I wish Norm would improve are. Hiring more refs and getting them better organized. I hate getting there a 9:00 am only to wait for hours for everyone to chrono, get ready and picking teams. This can be a real pain when he has "the big game" or "the Army Navy game".

Other Fields I have played:

Poco Loco in Pottstown, PA. I have played here a couple of times. A bit pricey for me. $99.00 for a case of paint?! Come on lighten up. I understand a place needs to make money to stay in business but this is highway robbery. You can buy a membership for $149.00 for 14 months. This gives you unlimited field play and $65.00 a case paint, still a bit high if you ask me, free co2 and air fills and 10% of equipment. With the standard admission fee of $30.00 this could save you some money if you go often enough. They do have a couple of nice fields "the castle" being one of them. A couple of the field could break ankles if you're not careful.

Skirmish in Jim Thorpe, PA. This is the place that stated it all. I went with my brother to play here with some of his friends a few years ago and from that time forward I was hooked. The fields are nice. The staff is friendly. they have a good place to buy lunch. All in all a good place, a bit pricey ,$99.00 a case, and a little far to drive though.

Capt'n Carl's in Aston, PA this is the worst field I have played. I will not go back.

Paintball on the Fly in Oaks, PA is actually located three blocks form my house. I played there the first time on 11/11/05. Even though they only offer indoor speedball fields we had a great time. I took my son and 4 of his friends. The six of us played within our group and played against another group of boys.
I would recommend this place to anyone. The staff was friendly and there pricing is very reasonable. $16.95 for all day compressed air, $18.95 for all day CO2 and $50.00 a case paint. There equipment rental is a real bargain at $12.95 for a standard package of a Tippmann 98 w/47/3000 tank, hopper, and mask We will return to play again.

These fields are close to me but I have never played there:
Iron Triangle in Zionsville, PA
Thornton Paintball in Thornton, PA
