	The Brigham Birthday Speech

	This race is on Brigham Newman’s birthday:
	Those that outlive this race, and comes safe home,
	Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
	And rouse themselves at the name Raging Russell.
	Those that shall finish this race, and see other races,
	Will yearly on the vigil feast on Clif Bars,
	And say, ‘To-morrow is Brig’s Birthday:’
	Then will they strip their Cool Max and show their scars,
	And say, ‘These wounds I had on the Raging Russell.’
	Old racers forget: yet all shall be forgot,
	But you’ll remember with advantages
	What feats you did that day. Then shall our names,
	Familiar on ESPN 2 as household words,
	Ron the Navigator, Kim and Kevin,
	JoEllen and Brian, Lori and Linda,
	Be in their flowing Camelbacks freshly remember’d.
	This story shall the good man teach his son;
	And Raging Russell shall ne’er go by,
	From this day to the ending of the world,
	But we in it shall be remembered;
	We few, we happy few, we team of adventure racers;
	For those today that sheds their sweat with me
	Shall be my teammate; be they ne’er so slow
	This day shall speed their steps:
	And racers in Georgia, now a-bed
	Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
	And hold their compasses cheap whiles any speaks
	That raced with us upon Brig Newman's birthday!
