Motorcycle roadracing is closed-course competition that is run at selective race tracks across the country. These races are sanctioned by various national and local organizations; however, motorcycle roadracing is a small, family-oriented, grass-roots motorsport. While small in scale, roadracing is big in action and huge in excitement. A typical race will be very closely contested with the competitors, numbering from 8 to 80 depending on the class, pushing their machines and themselves to the limit. A typical race weekend will have 150 racers entering two or three of the twenty or so races run during the weekend. The overwhelming majority of racers compete out of a love for the sport and pay their own ways. There are very few people who make a living at racing, thereby necessitating full-time work elsewhere. The average racer makes between $35,000 - $100,000 per year, of which on average $4,000 - $25,000 or more goes into racing.

MARRC safety crews work races mostly at Summit Point, West Virginia, but we have also worked at Charlotte, North Carolina and the prestigious National Finals at Daytona International Speedway. In 2000 volunteer crews worked more than 14,000 man-hours. In addition to motorcycle races, the Club has also worked at practice days and a few car and vintage car races.

A safety crew, or cornerworkers, are stationed around the race track and equipped with flags and cleanup gear. The crew (typically 50-150 people, depending on the size of the event) has several responsibilities:
Current MARRC membership is over 600 people, primarily in Virginia and Maryland, but also including members from New York to Georgia, and a few scattered about the Country. The Club has published a newsletter since 1984, mailing seven or eight issues per year. Non-working club activities include an annual banquet, an end-of-the-year video party, and various summer-time social activities.
There are nine elected officials, serving for two-year terms. MARRC maintains a post office box, and correspondence can be sent to PO Box 2292, Wheaton, MD 20915.
