Savannah's Home Page

At about 13:50 today, Sunday May 4th, 2003 we had Savannah put to sleep....:-(

She had been going down hill for the last couple of weeks. She would have good days where she would get up and move about without any issues, eating as normal, then other days when she won't not move from her bed, visibly in discomfort.

Unbeknownst to us one of her internal organs were coming apart, there is some technical term the vet used, but we frankly forget what it was. We had thought it just was early senior dog onset. Well, after a couple of good days this week she took a decided turn for the worse this morning. She had paralysis in the legs, very labored breathing and had not moved since Saturday night. She was going into shock just as we got her to the doggie emergency room around 12:40 PM. After some x-rays and probing by the vet, we made the only real choice to put her down.

Steve got her on 7/27/93 when she was about twelve weeks old. She was about 10 years and one month old this morning.

She hasn't been gone yet more than four hours and we already miss her terribly so. We are very thankful that she didn't linger suffering for an extended period of time, and thankful more that yesterday (Saturday) she had a relatively good day, getting out of the house for a short walk and eating a large dinner that ended up being her last supper.

The house is quite and still. We keep looking for her familiar sights and sounds as we clean up. We undoubtedly will have another dog someday, but we will never have one as dear to us as Savannah has been.

I got a mutt from the pound that runs my life. She is mostly Shepherd, and all whinny. If you want her she is available to a good home....

Savannah is a totally pathetic runt as you can see for yourself. The picture below was taken when she got her spring time hair cut & vacuum. She fears the vacuum, which makes it all the more fun to torture her with.

Her favorite trick is get you to bend over to say hello, then jump up planting her nose in your eye socket.

I taught her how to swim, or rather I taught her to not complain as much when splashing around in the water like a helpless fur bearing quadri-ped.
