The Cape May
WW2 Bunker, Part 2 |
Hey There! Well, on a recent trip down to Cape May (August 2005), fellow TEC members Diana & Mike went out on a Dolphin & Whale Watching Boat ride As we came around the lighthouse, I was surprised to see that the bunker was sitting on the sand! This is part of a restoration project underway, which should lead to the eventual reopening of the bunker to the public! That'll be nice to finally get in there (legally, LOL)

Compare these two images with the same views on our original posts. I'm still amazed that this huge block of concrete never fell over while up on the wooden pilings.

Well, despite the obvious warnings, I just couldn't resist Not "Keeping Off". However, this was as close as I was allowed to get. The Park Ranger made sure of that. I guess being the only guy on the beach without a bathing suit on and a large camera bag kinda made me stick out.

Yea, while he wasn't looking, I ran up and got a shot of the doorway...which is blocked by large pieces of broken concrete. Oh, here's a photo of the current residents of the bunker. I can say with confidence that there are a few hundred pigeons that call this place "Home".
