This page is up, but it's a work in progress. I'll be updating as I get time!
Hey there! Ok, maybe you've been to other Urban
Exploration sites before...or maybe not. Either way, this site might be a
bit different then what you're used to. So, I've taken a few moments to type
up this little page. It will explain things such as Danger Factor and Cool
Factor to some of the terms like Squatter and Arial Recon. If you're not
sure of what something means, hopefully you'll find it explained here. If
not, drop me a line so I can get it up here!
The Files- This is where you'll find all theinformation I know about the site. The hisory, what happened when I visited and a bunch of other stuff. From those pages, you'll be able to access all the pictures from that particular area.
Posted- This means "Are there any signs posted around the area", such as No Trespassing or Keep Out. A simple YES or NO will be here. If its posted, You are on your own! I suggest and advise you don't trespass.
Patrolled- This box will tell you if the area is patrolled by Police, Security or even the Town Watch. If it's patrolled, you are on your own! Jail is not fun...so I hear.
Location- Duh. Sometimes this will have an extremely general area or simply be marked "Secret". Sometimes this must be done so I can 1- Get to go to the place while 2- Protecting the privacy of the people involved. So, if you see that up, don't bother e-mailing me for directions. I won't respond.
Danger Level- With this, I'm going with a three step scale. Low- Not much to worry about unless you're prone to trip over your own feet. Medium- Watch out for holes, lots of cluttered trash, collapsed floors and broken steps. Typical things you would expect to see at a building left alone for years. High- A sneeze will bring the whole place crashing down. Only go here if you have the following three qualifications; 1- You don't listen to me at all when I say Don't Go, 2- You're a certified idiot with a deathwish and 3- You're like me and thinks "It won't happen to me!" (Please have your will made out, leaving me everything. Thank You.)
Cool Factor- Basically, how cool was it to find and explore the place. Was I happy when I left or was I feeling disappointed? I've vroken this scale up into 5 steps...1 to 5. So, 1- It sucked. My first thought when leaving was "If I ever feel like coming back here, someone hit me with a 2x4". 2- It still sucked, but had one or two things that made it suck less then a "1" rating. 3- Average- it didn't suck, but it didn't get me wanting to come back either. It was OK for when I had no other place to go. 4- Worth the trip. Good places to see, mostly intact building(s) and I'll plan on going back again at a later time. 5- This place was awsome! Intact buildings and lots of them. There was a lot of stuff left behind and I'll be going back every chance I get.
Haunted- Since my main hobby is investigating paranormal activity (haunted houses, ghosts, poltergeists), I usually take some readings and recordings to see if there is any activity going on. If there is, I'll let you know what kind. If not, well...there will be a "Nope" in that box.
Terminology
Artifact- These are the things that were left behind by the emplyees, owners and/or residents of the buildings. Artifacts includes things such as Books, Furniture, Tools, Records (The paper and vinyl types), TVs, Important Papers, etc.
Bum Rush- Well, it's basically when a bum (or squatter) rushes you. The Bum is only protecting "his" home, so when you come walking through the abandoned building, he takes it as a Home Invasion. Most Bums will either ignore you (while keeping you in sight) or simply leave until you do. Be careful it you get caught on the wrong side of a Bum Rush- They might be out to really hurt you!
Entry Room- This is simply the first room you walk into. It's also the room you'll probably come back to when you're ready to leave.
MoJo- The "draw" a place has that makes people like me want to go back again and again. Some may call it "Magic", others will say "Charm"...still, other may call it Obsessive Compulsive. Whatever it is, it keeps us coming back.
Smack Down- This goes hand-in-hand with the Bum Rush. Without going into details, if you get Bum Rushed, You may have to put the Smack Down on them. I would advise using only enough Smack Down to stop the current Bum Rush and to prevent any further attempts to Bum Rush. Are you getting my point?
Squatter- Another name for a Bum. A squatter usually takes up residence in an abadnoned building, be it a house, hotel or whatever. There are laws about squatters, but it's extremely difficult to get a straight forward answer.
Urban Explorer- Any person who enjoys exploring abandoned places- such as houses, hotels, motels, wharehouses, factories, hospitals, towns, coal breakers, tunnels, zoos, parks, etc. We explore, take pictures and swap stories about our adventures.
