Some history about the NIKE Base- Believe it or not, I can't find a damn thing on this place. Well,  I did find a few SMALL things. The Installation name was NIKE PH-15, Site ID C03PA0228. It appears to also have been contaminated with radiation, although this is not confirmed. This base (or what's left of it) started being disassembled in 1995. So far, it has cost about $190, 000 in cleanup fees. It looks like it'll cost another $161, 000 to finish the job. This base is one of 76 clean up projects on 42 properties. And that's about it. If anyone has any additional information...or better yet, some pictures of the base while in operation or just after...I would appreciate it!

My Visits-Report- Well, besides the milestone of this being my son's first exploring adventure, there's not much more to report. I was here probably about 10 years ago with an old Paintball friend of mine. There used to be several buildings spread out on the property, along with two silos and a look-out tower. Upon my return in 12/03, the two silos and the tower are all that's left standing. The rest of the buildings are all gone, with only the foundations left to mark that anything was actually there. There are two roads that run along the grounds of the base, both of which are "slightly" overgrown.
The two silos, as you'll see in the photos, are surrounded by a square frame with sheet metal walls covering most of it. The bottom 3 or 4 feet is actaully fencing, which allowed me to get the photos I wanted with having to climb with a 1 and a half year old in tow. The look-out/guard tower is a simple steel frame design in a triangle shape. None of them look too safe, with a lot of rust, jagged edges and broken pieces all over.
My son thouroghly enjoyed looking at the silos and tower...and the leaves on the ground, the rocks and the abandoned BBQ we found. Hopefully his appreciation for Abandoned Places will develop in a few years!
It's a real shame that this part of our history is almost totally erased from, well...our world. (Damn, I am getting old) Anywho, as long as I have batteries for my camera and stun gun, I'll document what I can so we can all remember what used to be.
