The Durham Cave

    Thanks to Drop Tool and B & E for checking out the cave and sending me these photos. The entrance into this grotto is about 100 yards west of the Delaware River. As you'll see in the cross sections below, about 2/3 of the cave was quarried away sometime in the 1850s. What remains of the cave forms a natural amphitheater that is more than 160 feet long, 55 feet wide and 30, feet high. Just think, the original cave was almost 300 feet long. 

    It looks like there was a rope ladder to access another part of the cave...but the guys decided not to try it. The silhouette you see is of B & E, it gives you an idea of how wide the mouth of the cave is.
