This is the story of Kate and Ted….

Once upon a time, a graduate student in psychology (that was Kate) and an undergraduate student in computer science (that was Ted) met at the Cadillac Bar in Hoboken, New Jersey on July 3, 2001. (Yes, people do actually meet in bars and develop lasting relationships!). Chivalrous Ted offered to walk Kate home, and then wooed her by asking to use her bathroom and romantically suggesting that she could run into him during “Power Hour” sometime at the Cadillac Bar. They dated for a few months, but it just didn’t work out. Ted wasn’t ready to make a commitment, and Kate was still recovering from a previous relationship.

This is where Kate and Ted met. It has since collapsed (literally).

This is Kate and Ted in September of 2001 hobnobbing at the Brickskeller! Notice how young they look.

After about a year (in August of 2002), Kate and Ted decided to give it another try. They had a lot of fun times in Hoboken, but Ted graduated in May 2003 and moved back to Virginia. Kate and Ted broke up yet again, but kept in touch.

Here are Kate and Ted at Kate’s apartment in Hoboken during a visit.

Kate decided that she was going to move to the D.C. area when she finished her grad school coursework in New York. At this point, Ted and Kate talked about dating once more. By this time, Ted was traveling for work and could fly to New Jersey for free for visits. Kate moved to Alexandria, VA in August of 2004.

On December 14, 2003 (the day Saddam Hussein was captured, a definite omen for the relationship!), Kate and Ted “officially” started dating again. And this time it stuck! They were engaged on December 17, 2005.

The moral is this….the third time is the charm!
