This will be general tactics for the use of the Bretonnian army and the Knights of the Realm.
Always remember that the strength
of your army is the Knights and their Lance formations backed by
the Longbowmen of Bretonnia in their arrowhead formations. Deploy
to take the best advantage of this.
One deployment that works well with the Bretonnian Army is the
Eschelon formation: Deploy your most powerful Knights forward on
a flank, with lesser Knights, Longbowmen, and Halberdiers
deployed stepped to the rear from that flank to the other. This
will give your Archers time to do damage with their arrows before
the enemy can make contact. Make sure that each Archer unit is
supported by Men-at-Arms. Use skirmishing Squires on foot to
screen your heavier Men-at-Arms until the enemy is close. Arm
your skirmishers with bows so that they can harass the enemy at
all times. Use mounted Squires armed with bows to harass your
enemy's flanks. Make sure to include a champion, standard, and
musician in every Knightly unit. Use characters to strengthen
your Lance formation's hitting power. Make sure that you give a
magic standard to all your Knights units. Always give any unit
that can have them a standard and musician. Don't forget your
Knights of the Realm, they should be your backbone troops,
Questing Knights and Grail Knights make good storm troops, but
are exspensive. Knights Errant can be very useful against horde
armies, but I would not use them in units of less than 12.
Always take the Lady's Blessing, and always include one or
two magic users, they are very important to this army, as it has
no artillary, and if you take allies that have artillary, you can
not have the Blessing of the Lady.
A character on a flying monster is always a good addition to take
cake of those pesky artillary pieces.
I know that this is very generalized, but if you take what is
written above, and think about the make up and style of fighting
of your opponent, and modify it to fit, you should have some
success. The very best allies for Bretonnians are Wood Elfs and
High Elfs, as they have complimentary troops.
