Karen Cooper's designs are rich in color and textures, and exemplify the beauty of customizing. She has a broad background in the arts, with experience as a make-up artist, painter and seamstress, and has worked with stained glass, silversmithing, jewelry making and quilting.
"Teal Fantasy"
She has been customizing fashion dolls for only two years, and works primarily with formal designs. For
inspiration for her dolls, she looks to her imagination, old movies and fashion
designers from all eras. Valentino is her favorite. She prefers to work with vibrant colors, silky and shiny fabrics and anything that strikes
her fancy. Many of her creations involve detailed beading. Karen likes working with the Mackie and Steffie® face molds, but believes that "you can make
any of them turn out unique and appropriate for the outfit you are working on".
"Ice Princess"
She recently placed Second in the Fantasy Category of the 1999 BMAA Contest with her "Ice Princess".Her favorite part of the design process is thinking up the designs themselves, although she says that she enjoys the entire design process. I used to hate doing hair. I've tried to get over that and do more creative things. She says that the most frustrating part of the process is not having enough time to work on her dolls.
