“GI Jane” was the piece I constructed for an area reporter who I found had a very close connection as a nurse in Viet Nam feeling deep guilt about not being able to save wounded troops. Although she retained her journalistic skepticism, she conceded that much of what I had said through the reading did seem to echo in her current life experiences. Soon after she quit her news job and is now happy to be giving continued support to Hurricane Katrina victims as a full time volunteer.
