Historical MuseumHenderson, NC 27536 The
Vance Co. Historical Museum, operated by the Vance County Historical
Society, has moved to Ashland Plantation, Satterwhite Point Rd. Ashland
is Vance County's oldest home, built in 1740 by Samuel Henderson. At
present, the museum is open for group tours and by appointment. Contact Lou Almand or Tem Blackburn (252) 492-5061.

County Genealogical SocietyThis active group was formed from the Vance County Historical Society
New genealogy group: Vance County Genealogy 1881, Inc.Meets: 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the Local History Room, H. Leslie Perry Library, 205 Breckenridge St., Henderson. The Henderson Daily Dispatch carries notices of upcoming meetings with announcements of any changes in meeting place or time. Annual membership dues: $15 individuals/ $20 family, payable in January or whenever you join. To join, simply show up at a meeting and pay dues, or mail dues to the Vance County Genealogical Society, P O Box 2055, Henderson, NC 27536. The Society's officers (in 2013) are: President: Judy Stainback, (252) 492-3051) Vice President: Art Falkner Secretary: Nancy Bobbitt Treasurer: Jean Ayscue Contact Joyce Duke at imaduke@centurylink.net for more information about this new genealogy group that plans to meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:30pm at the H. Register of Historic Places; collects, preserves and displays
artifacts, oral and written records, photographs and printed material
regarding the education of African Americans in Vance County. Houses
class photographs, yearbooks, artifacts from Jubilee Hospital,
materials donated from alumnus and a research center. Included in the
collection are portraits of the administration and items from the
Delany sisters' estates.
