Records at NC State Archives:
The North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh holds a great many of Vance County's records.
A listing of both the original and the microfilmed records held by NC Archives was published in 1997 under the title Guide to Research Materials in the NC State Archives: County Records.
This publication is now available as a free download in PDF format from the North Carolina State Archives website. The direct link to the download page is here.
Microfilms may be purchased from NC Archives, however, the Church of Latter Day Saints also holds duplicates of many of these microfilms. These may be borrowed at nominal cost through LDS Church local Family History Centers. The centers are open for use by the general public at no charge.
Old Newspapers on Microfilm:
The North Carolina Newspaper Project is a growing collection of newspapers which have been microfilmed. The holdings include many Vance County papers. These films may be borrowed from the State Library of NC through Interlibrary Loan, or purchased from NC State Archives.
