July/August, 2006: Toward a Synthesis of Models

It is a mystery: Visitation in the night by a phenomenon of which we understand little.  What are the Visitors really doing here?  What would an Extraterrestrial strategy be towards contact?  We have thus far studied models[i] of the UFO/CE4 phenomenon such as the Deardorff[ii] model, the Genetic/Hybrid model and the Zoo/National-Park model.  How can we combine them based upon what we have so far discerned about the phenomenon?  We can also ask whether, to the Visitors, it might somehow be vital to "improve" humanity.  Thus, In this article, we begin to unite these various models to build an overall hypothesis of the Visitor presence.  In future articles, we can then ask how we can prove or disprove such a hypothesis.  But today, let's look at theories and put them together - moving toward a synthesis of models...

 

Human Awakening

An eastern parable asks, "How do you eat an elephant? - one bite at a time."  Similarly, we might ask, how do you change the human race? - one person at a time.  Thus, in addition to the apparent genetic manipulation described in the previous article, we can ask whether we might also view the changes fostered in each experiencer as part of an overall drive to change humanity.  As described by Dr. James Deardorff, which we discussed in an earlier article, perhaps the way to contact "primitive" beings such as humanity is from the bottom up, at the grass roots.  Perhaps the way to ready us for contact is to foster the personal growth of each person - eventually reaching a critical mass of awakening to the Visitors presence.

 

In earlier articles, we discussed the phenomenon of psychic and spiritual awakening that seems to occur for the individual experiencer as he/she comes to terms with the phenomenon.  We noted that for the newly awakened, signs of the phenomenon seem to include: a sudden shift in perspective to a more spiritual or metaphysical viewpoint, and less patience with the more petty aspects of human society in the face of the deep environmental and spiritual issues that our society faces.  However, foremost for our purposes is the onset of psychic abilities and increased intuition.  As more than one experiencer has said, "It was as if my eyes were suddenly opened". 

 

We have also noted that the CE4 phenomenon is just one of many possible drivers of such emergence.  However, the result is the same, a form of both personal growth and interpersonal connectedness.  Many of the awakened have described an increased sense of connectedness, as if (for better or for worse, voluntarily or otherwise) they were expanding out with their minds, forming psychic connections.  Thus, as they grow, they seem, in some way, to interlink, each one becoming a node in an awakening network of a more interconnected humanity. 

 

Barbara Marx Hubbard, in her book "Conscious Evolution,"[iii] describes this psychic networking in terms of Stuart Kauffman's theory of networks and self-organizing systems[iv].  Hubbard describes how, as nodes of any network become progressively more interconnected, at some point a critical transition occurs.  The fundamental nature of the network changes.  It is a phase change, like the formation of a crystal.  The random disordered behavior of individual elements becomes that of a coherent whole.  Hubbard theorizes that the ultimate result of progressive human psychic interconnection may be just such a transition - in which individual humans unite to become collectively awakened, a greater super-aware unity. 

 

Many mental health and spiritual workers describe a psychic and spiritual awakening, which appears to be in progress.[v]  In addition, many abductees describe these same experiences and this sense of interconnectedness with others.  Might this be the early signs of such a phase change?  Or to use the words of Barbara Marx Hubbard, could this be the start of the "conscious evolution?"

 

As we suggested earlier, perhaps the way to contact "primitive" beings such as humanity is from the bottom up, at the grass roots.  Perhaps the way to ready us for contact is to foster the emergence of each person, for one person, two persons, then thousands, then millions - and eventually billions, building a critical mass toward the conscious evolution.

 

The Emergence of Humanity

To understand possible motivations and agendas for the Visitor presence in our collective lives, let's take a step back, and imagine that we can view humanity from their perspective. 

 

1.      Based upon cultural and historical considerations, we can suggest that large-scale contact would potentially be very damaging to the present-day human culture.  In an earlier article, we examined the dangers of contact and suggested that as a whole, humanity is not yet ready to meet the neighbors. 

 

2.      Even a cursory look at human history shows that humanity is a fundamentally warlike being.  In the present era, our largest single economic endeavor is war.[vi]  During modern times, our history has been dominated by such cataclysms as World War 1, World War 2, and uncountable genocidal massacres.[vii]

 

3.      Humanity has developed the capability for destruction on a planetary scale.  We now have arsenals of multi-megaton nuclear weapons, which we could potentially unleash in a global barrage, resulting in gigatons of explosive power unleashed into the planetary environment.  Thus, we now have the capability of destroying our world - and by extension, other worlds, as well.

 

4.      Humanity may now be on the verge of developing interstellar flight.[viii]  Advances in zero point theory,[ix] the understanding of gravity and other areas of physics[x] suggest that within a few hundred years we might well have the capability to travel to the stars.

 

We can therefore imagine those in a cosmic civilization, which we presume to exist out there, asking whether we are the types of folks that they would want coming out into the neighborhood.  In humanity's current state of civilization, I can imagine that the answer is probably "No".  Yet, the recent rapid pace of human technological advance might provide the worrisome prospect of just such a premature human expansion. 

 

Yet there are many humans (including myself) who believe that it is humanity's future to expand into space.  Many now speak of a new manifest destiny: the destiny of humanity to expand to the planets - and eventually to the stars.[xi]  If humans are indeed destined to go to the stars, then by that time, will we have changed our culture and habits?  Will we have matured enough to realize that war is not the answer to our problems?  Or will we simply begin building starships and carrying our warlike ways with us to the cosmos?

 

This question suggests an immediate ET agenda: to prevent our warlike race from prematurely spilling out into the stars; to provide quarantine and containment until humanity is ready for contact.  The neighbors might consider it vital that we somehow be changed, tamed or civilized, in order to avoid the universal catastrophe that unchecked human expansion might bring.  We can therefore imagine a hypothesized "ET Strategy for Earth" as a blueprint for human/ET relations, both now and far into the future.  We can begin to understand that such an agenda would have a high priority for our cosmic neighbors.

 

The "Indigo Hypothesis"

We have discussed the phenomenon of psychic and spiritual awakening that seems to occur for the individual experiencer.  In addition, we frequently observe that the Visitor experience seems to run in family lines.  As I meet the families of experiencers, I have noticed that, in some cases, the characteristics emerging in newly awakened adults already seem to be present in their children.  Many close encounter experiencers describe their children as gifted, psychic, deeply empathic, and other characteristics similar to those of awakened adults.  As an informal observation, I have noted a disproportionately large number of such children among these families.  I have wondered about the mechanism by which these children are awakened.  Is it due to influences of the Visitors, or is there something else at work?

 

Earlier, we discussed the idea of genetic manipulation that seems to be a key focus of the abduction phenomenon.  Budd Hopkins and David Jacobs argue that this is intended to create some form of hybrid being for purposes presently unknown to us.  However, we can ask whether such re-engineered genes might somehow be integrated into the overall human gene pool for purposes we do not yet understand. 

 

One variant of this genetic hypothesis is the theory that such a hybridization process is intended to breed a new human.  One possible representation of such an advanced human is described in the literature as the "Indigo Child."  This term is based upon the work of Jan Tober and Lee Carroll in their book, "The Indigo Children."[xii]  Wendy H.  Chapman also describes the Indigo Children on the website www.metagifted.org.[xiii]  Both works describe these children as being deeply empathic, visionary, intuitive, and having a deep sense of mission and purpose.  They seem to live with a thin veil between the physical and spiritual worlds.  Furthermore, they[xiv] are often intellectually gifted, resistant to authority and endowed with a high degree of psychic ability.  They tend to have difficulties with the more mundane, non-creative aspects of life.

 

Is there a correlation between the Visitor experience and the Indigo-child phenomenon?  Might a "genetic agenda" of the Visitor phenomenon result in an increased number of such children? 

 

This is what I call the "Indigo Hypothesis": That the genetic changes fostered by the Visitors might actually begin to appear in the general populace, in the new generation of humanity.  We theorize hybridization changes by the Visitors being assimilated into the overall human gene pool, resulting in the emerging generation of "Indigo Children" that we see today. 

 

What the true purpose would be for such a program of "human re-engineering" we could only guess.  Nevertheless, we can speculate that as these children take their functional place in society, we might somehow begin to see a more "awakened" conduct of human affairs.  Perhaps we might see a new humanity, more ready for contact and more accepting of an ET presence on earth. 

 

Integrating the Models

Ultimately, is there a primary agenda behind the Visitor presence?  We have so far considered a number of different models.  Can we, with what we have learned to date, begin to synthesize an overall theory of the phenomenon?

 

We have discussed possible ET strategies for contact with humanity.  To me, the most basic and all-encompassing model seems to be the Deardorff "Possible ET Strategy for Earth" - a hypothetical structured program of contact, which we can imagine that the Visitors might follow.  Such a model suggests a slow, steady program of observation, limited contact at the grass-roots level, with gradual and progressive revelation of themselves as humanity adapts to their presence.  It also allows occasional limited intervention should a situation on Earth become serious enough to so warrant.  However, the ultimate goal of such an agenda would be to prepare Earth for eventual open contact and disclosure.  This would seem to be the most basic paradigm for much of the overall activity of the Visitors, a framework for our combined hypothesis.

 

Within this framework, we can also see the nature-preserve (NP) metaphor as potentially being an accurate model of the on-going Human/Visitor relationship.  We can envision a nature-preserve Earth in which extraterrestrial "naturalists" conduct research and perhaps manage the evolution of the indigenous human "wildlife."  This model may serve as a framework to understand better what we now know as UFO abduction.

 

We have touched on the idea of humanity as a potential threat to the cosmic community.  What can the Visitors do to prevent a dangerous humanity from spilling out in to the interstellar neighborhood?  The obvious answer would seem to be to quarantine and somehow civilize humanity through contact and education.  Ultimately, we can ask if it may actually be necessary to breed a more acceptable humanity.  This suggests an immediate motivation for the genetic agenda as described by the Hopkins/Jacobs Model of UFO abduction - and leads us to an "Indigo Hypothesis." 

 

At the individual level, the Visitors seem to foster a psychic and spiritual awakening.  Simultaneously, they seem to be breeding some form of apparently more desirable characteristics into a new race of human beings.  This suggests that the process is intended to engender a new humanity more acceptable to the cosmic community, our preparation for contact.
