This is a very good direct line recording from the MSG evening show of January 31, 1974. That being said, the quality is not quite what one would hope for from a line recording. It is, however, as good as any circulating tape of this era. The vocals are powerful and up front, and all instruments and backing vocals fit nicely into the overall mix. According to Graeme, "This is not the commercial boot "Before & After The Flood" to which you have made a link (most of which is actually the Madison Garden show from 1/31/74). Nor is it the other widely circulating commercial Boot "Oakland Flood" which is from the Afternoon show of the same date which has a slightly different set list. This is though definitely the Evening show from Oakland on 11 February 1974 which in its complete state is pretty rare, certainly more so than the afternoon show. I would suggest that "The Shape I'm In", which is cut in any event, is almost certainly not from this show at all (It appears in no set list for the show I can find) and appears on the disc in total isolation with silence both before and after its appearence." My thanks for his excellent research and clarification.
