A Retrospective is a documentary look into the musical life of one of America's premier songwriters. As a founding member of The Band, as one of Bob Dylan's first musical partners, as a respected solo artist, and as a noted film scorer, Robertson's musical career has paired him with some of the most important entertainers of our time. This video journey includes never before seen footage of Robertson doing what he does best: making music. Writing songs in a motel room with Bob Dylan, performing with the Band during the making of the Basement Tapes, rehearsing with Eric Clapton for the Band's 1994 Hall of Fame induction, planning a film score with Barry Levinson, and reminiscing with director Martin Scorsese are all highlights of this one hour retrospective of Robertson's long and legendary career. Also featured are 'lost performance' film segments from the Band's appearance at Woodstock, as well as unreleased clips of Robbie and the Band backing up Bob Dylan on the infamous 'Eat the Document' tour.

This is a laserdisc that probably contains the same material as the Chronicle video. It is nearly identical to the Robbie Robertson documentary that was broadcasted on the Disney Channel in the US in 1995. The disc does not have any film footage of The Band rehearsing and recording Music From Big Pink. The video features a lot of interviews. Robbie talks about Delta Blues, guitar playing, Native Americans, and Bob Dylan. Robbie also talks to Willie Dixon and Martin Scorsese.
