Whether you are an experienced bird owner … a first time bird owner … or somewhere in between, you’ll fit in at The Bird Heard. We are a small bird club located in Columbia, MD.
The Bird Heard was established in 1999 by a group of bird owners who wanted the opportunity to meet on a regular basis. The club continues to grow and thrive. All of our members have one thing in common -- the desire to provide the best possible life for the birds in our care.
We hold monthly meetings on the last Sunday of the month. Meetings are held at members’ homes. Monthly meetings give members the opportunity to hear guest speakers, participate in round table discussions and make new friends.
The focus of our meetings is education, friendship, fun, and of course, food!! Keeping up with the newest techniques in living with companion birds and assuring we provide them with the best possible care is the main goal of all members of the club. Our meetings are fun and informative for all. No matter how much or how little you know, you always come away feeling like you have learned something new.
Our November/December meeting is a holiday party with lots of food, a gift swap and plenty of fellowship among our members and guests.
The Bird Heard operates entirely on the proceeds collected from membership dues, raffles, and special fundraising events.
Membership dues are $25.00 per year (August–July) per family. Our members enjoy a monthly newsletter, informative meetings, and field trips. In addition, members received free classified advertising in the newsletter and access to a wealth of information from knowledgeable bird owners.
For the health of our birds, we do not permit birds at the meetings -- aside from those who live at the house where the meeting is being held.
Whether you have one bird, three birds, dozens of birds, or you are simply thinking of getting your first bird, consider joining a club. Being involved with a club is the best way to assure you are doing your best for the birds in your care. Everyone benefits from the shared knowledge and expertise of other experienced bird owners.
Bird ownership is not easy … and it’s not for everyone. But, if you are owned by a bird, join us and experience what we are about. Friendship abounds here!!
