Leaping lizards, Batman...uh, sorry. I mean leaping frogs, as in Calaveras County Jumping Frog Contest! Jump on over to Frogtown for the latest on this year's contest. Each year at this time you can witness Frog Jumping Day, May 13, which celebrates Mark Twain's 'jumping frog' which made him famous. It was December 16, 1865 when Mark Twain's "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" was published in "The Californian", a San Francisco weekly literary journal. You can read all of this celebrated short story as published in "The Californian".

NEWS FLASH !!! Animal Planet Picks Top 50 TV Animals.
Kermit the Frog came in second behind AP's #1 pick: Lassie. After receiving the honor, Kermit said "It may not be easy being green, but being picked as the second most popular TV animal of all time kinda softens the blow." To see which pets and animal icons made the list, visit The 50 Greatest TV Animals of All Time.

2/27/05 - Third Time's the Charm! It only took three years, but the Georgia Senate finally voted 50-0 to designate the green tree frog as Georgia's official state amphibian. But the tiny green tree frog, native to south Georgia, must still win over the House and the Governor. Credit must go to the students in a fourth-grade class in Rome, Georgia who proposed the official designation. Lets hope our little green friend finds his way into officialdom before the students, who are now in middle school, graduate!
