I live within a couple of hours of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. The largest private home in America has 255 rooms and floor space measured in acres (about 4.5) instead of square feet. When it was completed in 1895 it was located on a 125,000 acre estate. There are now a mere 8000 or so.
A very large portion of the house is now open for viewing and every season of the year has something special to experience here. Although photography is not allowed within the house, the surrounding gardens are a riot of colors and textures for the amateur.
