Visio Template

A while ago (August of 1999) there was a post on Large Scale Online which talked about using Visio to design a layout for train sets etc... I thought it was a pretty good idea as did more than just a few other people. In the end, Stan Silverman provided me with a template he made for LGB track to be used in Visio. I don't use LGB track so to be honest I never really gave it much of a chance. Since that time I have forwarded Stan's template to a ton of Visio using train lovers. So many in fact, I though I would make up this page for any others that would like to try out the template. To this point I have only had positive feedback from the various users trying it out so, go ahead, download it and try it! Of course if you do, send me or better yet, send Stan some e-mail to let us know how it worked for you and if you come up with something that is a real piece of work send it along too. I might be able to add it to the site so others can try your plan or modify it to meet their needs. The template is pretty strait forward but Stan sent a couple of quick tips along with the file to get things going... Oh, one more thing. If you come across a template for Aristo Craft track let me know. I would like to try it out.

Visio Template for use with LGB "G" scale track updated.gif (150 bytes) 6-18-03 to Version 2.1!

Tips:

  1. Objects are FULL SIZE, so set the Page Size (under Page Setup) to the size of your layout, not the size of  your printer paper. For example, a 10 foot by 12 foot layout would be entered as 120 x 144 inches.
  2. For the most accurate placement of objects, turn off both Glue and Snap (under Tools), and zoom-in while placing them.
