Who Am I?

Strangely enough, over the last few years I've made quite a few friends on the internet. Some I have never met while others I have. It's hard to imagine that friendships can be made from something like the internet but it's true. I can honestly tell you that I have friends around the world and the distance between us makes no difference at all. We can chat with each other any time of the day or night. Share cool pictures and videos of our trains and even provide extremely detailed help to someone that might be stuck with an engineering problem or trying to work out a complex issue. Yes, a great thing the internet truly is...

Although I have met so many people through this site and many others like it, I still wonder about a lot of people out there. What do they do for a living? Where do they live? Why do they like largescale trains etc. So with that in mind, this page is to give you a little information about me/us if you might be curious.

Who am I? As you should know by now my name is Jon Foster. I guess I'm a nobody in the grand scheme of things but I like trains so here I am. I'm in my mid thirties and getting older everyday.

Where am I? We live in White Lake, Michigan which is about 15 minutes west of Pontiac, Michigan.

What do I do? In the fewest words possible, I fix computers and anything else that is broken. I also tend to be the person with all the answers. But truly I don't know why people come to ask me!

What did I do? I've had jobs in numerous fields. Most have been fixing things like computers, cars, recreation vehicles, house's and even people for a short time. I've been an adult education teacher (teaching grown-ups), owned a few small companies (until the fun was gone) and managed for many others. I have a lifetime of military experience. My father is the youngest Drill Instructor in the history of the United States Marine Corps and because of that, lets just say I've spent my share of time first in the Navy Cadet Corps and then the Marine Corps. I am an accomplished press operator (printing press) having experience in small office presses to large Newspaper presses. Heck, I was even in the fresh produce business for a while. Yep, I'm a Jack of all trades!

Are there more? Yes, I have a wonderful wife and the 3 best kids in the world! And yes, they all like trains too.

Hobbies? Oh ya! Along with our largescale trains, we also enjoy HO, N, Lego and real life 1:1 trains. My son and I love to hunt big game whenever we can (sorry to some of you) too. Reading is a huge hobby/pastime for our entire family and we read as many hours as possible everyday of the week. We're into computers and other electronics as well and are just now getting back into programming. We love movies of all kinds (DVD's rules) but hate TV. Years ago I built race cars for a living so that should give you an idea of how much I like cars, trucks, airplanes, helicopters and anything else mechanical (more to play with). We enjoy the outdoors and all the related activities that go with it except those darn mosquito's and for the past few of years we've had a great interest in astronomy. We love to use our telescope with the astrophotography side of it getting more and more interesting by the day. And after close to a 20 year hiatus from photography, I'm starting to get back into it with our son. You can see some of our pictures here (mine) and here (our son's). We also camp whenever we can so Geocaching has become a hobby/sport/recreation that we find ourselves doing on a daily basis at times. Lets see, did I mention my love for models? or "our" Lego addiction? Yes, our hobbies include all these things and much more (that we can't afford yet)... Hopefully I'll pass it all along to my kids too!

Jon.
