News And Events
March, 2007: Last Tuesday's meeting featured an interesting and informative talk by Bob Ross about the V2 rocket. Bob is apparently quite the collector of V2 memorabilia, as he showed us such items as a a "brick" from Peenemunde, and a graphite vane from an actual V2. He explained that these vanes were located below the rocket exhaust and were used to control the direction of the rocket in flight. Bob also showed us a video showing how the Germans set-up the V2 from city streets in The Hague, Holland, and launched them against London during the war.
Our next launch will be Saturday March 3rd at the Farm.
January, 2007: SoJARS announces new rules, new launch times, and new dues schedule.
Effective immediately, yearly dues for adult or family (including adult and as many children or teens as you have) are $24. This INCLUDES launch fees, as ...
Also, effective immediatley, launches are restricted to SoJARS members. We will still welcome guests and visitors, and they will be allowed one free visit with us. They must then join SoJARS in order to continue participating in rocketry activities with us.
Launches will start earlier. Set up will be at 0930 and flights start at 1000. This is to take advantage of the fact that winds are usually lighter in the morning, and temperatures cooler during summer launches.
January, 2007: Election of new officers took place at our January meeting. Bruce Canino was elected President; Al Kosin, Vice President; Bob Jonas will again serve as Secretary/Treasurer, and Jack Komorowski as Range and Safety Officer (RSO).
In addition to his presidential duties, Bruce will wear two more hats, continuing as our NAR Advisor (not nearly as exciting as being "Playboy Advisor", but you can't have everything), and will take on the duties of the Contest Director. Art Treiman will serve as Director of Outreach, and Steve Bastow as Quartermaster.
Lastly, Barry Berman will continue as Webmaster, and add "Communications" to his duties.
December, 2006: We have obtained a new PO box at the Sewell Post Office. Effective immediately our PO box number is 593, the same as our NAR Section number. Please send all correspondence (such as dues checks!!) to:
