Introduction

What do you dream about being when you get older?  I dream about becoming an actor.  Actors are responsible for entertaining and communicating with people through their dramatic roles.  Only a few people attain the level of fame that people associate with acting.  Acting is a career that I would one day like to pursue.  I think the rewards of becoming a successful actor or actress are numerous but to get there you would have to work hard and be very determined.

Preparation

In order to enter the acting profession it is a good idea to receive some formal training before starting in acting.  Many famous actors participated in high school and college plays and went to a school for acting.  Some actors would participate in a small neighborhood theater before kicking off their acting careers.  Actors often go around from place to place before hitting it big in Hollywood or New York City.  Successful actors often attend dramatic arts schools to receive bachelor or higher degrees in theater arts.  They usually study liberal arts, play writing, and play production, and design and the history of drama.

Work

Becoming an actor is a difficult task.  Many people spend years working and wondering when they will make it big time in the acting business and end up right where they started.  Many people spend years working in amusement parks or on cruse ships and as clowns at Children’s birthday party waiting till they get their chance but never do.  The market for actors is a very competitive one so its has to be every man for themselves.  Many actors live very stressful lives struggling to get enough money to support them selves and often finding them selves looking for a second job.  If you finally make it big then you will still live a stressful life with everyone telling what you do and doing one little tiny thing until it is perfect.  You also have the media following you around everywhere you go and everyone knows everything that they want to about you and your personal life.

Potential

No matter what happens someone always associates actors with someone with lots of money, fame and happy, and someone always will.  Although everyone thinks that it is not true at all.  Yea sure if you become a really successful actor then you get paid a lot of money but really the majority of the actors in the world no one but their friends and family have ever heard of.  Most small time actors that have speaking parts get paid the minimum daily rate of 575 to 2000 dollars a weak while performing a show.  Actors that are extra’s get paid anywhere from 50 dollars to 300 dollars for an eight-hour day. The average earnings for actors in 1998 was under 10,000 dollars.  If you go into acting then you better be really good so that you can make it big but if you are planning on doing little things your whole life then you should look for another job.  The majority of actors are unemployed most of the time so you better either get a big job that pays lots of money or find another job somewhere else.  Most actors work about eight hours a day and don’t get many benefits from it.  Actors don’t usually get things such as insurance but usually just money.

Conclusion

I think that I would be a pretty good actor because I love to do it and I am willing to work hard at it.  Some reasons why I might not be a good actor is that I am not the greatest public speaker, but I could take some classes at that and do the best that I can.  I have learned that acting is not all fun and games and that most actor you don’t see in a movie’s or a TV Show’s but most of them are just extra’s.  I also learned that the majority of actors don’t get paid lots of money but that most of them need a second job just to survive.  Acting has a competitive market and it certainly is not for everyone.  Most actors go to an acting school and start their acting career before high school.  The average amount of income for actors in 1998 was less then 10,000 dollars and that’s not even enough to pay all the bills.  I have learned a lot about acting in my research and I certainly learned that if you want to go into the acting business then you better be willing to work really hard and better be very determined.
