I am roughing in a stereo system right now. I have a Kenwood
KDC-S2009 CD reciever and I have some cheap aftermarket 3.5" in front. I
will be building a stereo box that tries to be compact while holding a pair
of 10" subs, a pair of 6x9 speekers, and the amplifier all without sticking
out in front of the axle hump of the trunk floor. I have roughed out the
rear pilar for a pair of 6.5" speakers and will reinforce around that opening.
I will be putting in good quality speakers like sony xplods or the like.
Since g-bodies are easy to break into (relatively, since it has an unframed
window) I plan on installing an alarm system. Nothing real fancy, mostly
because they now come with keyless entry and some can add a button for a
remote start. I have installed power lock but may install fdifferent units
that will interface easier with the keyless entry from an alarm.
I also have a cheap radio shack CB installed. My antenna install consits
of a mount in the center of the roof. Yes, I drilled a hole. That is because
this is the best location for an antenna. Since the interior is apart, it
is the best time to route coax cable to the antenna location. If you are
thinking of installing a Cb, some tips. Better to start with a cheap radio
and a good antenna. A good radio won't do much without a good antenna. Treat
the coax as if it were an oil line. no sharp bends kinks or pinches. It is
the artery to your antenna. Without coax in good shape, the radio and antenna
won't do much. I plan on upgrading to a nicer SSB (sideband) unit in the
future. I also plan on getting a 102" whip antenna and a nicer fiberglass
antenna that is shorter like a 3' firestik or something.
