Jonathan and I had a great time in Utah during the Summer of 2000.
We booked a trip down the Colorado River with OARS,
an outfitter who runs trips through Cataract Canyon in Canyonlands National
Park. Trevor
and his crew
guided us down 100 miles of river to Lake Powell.
We camped in some spectacular locations.
Jonathan and I ate like kings while we were there. The raft crew,
in addition to their excellent river skills, were very
good cooks. Jonathan and I drank
a lot of water on our many day hikes into
the side canyons and cliffs. At times we
seemed to have the river to ourselves. We
saw many Anasazi ruins and lots of evidence
that there was a very active culture in this arid region thousands of years
ago. We then took off over Lake Powell in a small
aircraft and flew back north over the canyons.
Our pilot,
Scott, set us back down
in Moab in about 35 minutes. The plane ride was fun, but I'd
rather take the slow ride downriver any day.
