Telasecret (AKA Velvet) is a 1994 14.3 1/2h homozygous black Arabian mare.
Her sire, Telaviv, a *fortel grandson, sired 37 foals. 20 of them are black. Velvet
also carries the blood of *Witez II (twice), Fadjur, *Bask and Ariston.
Velvet was bought by us from a man in California who was a Paint horse trainer.
While taking riding lessons from his mother, she pointed a thin, dull filly out
to me that was in their round pen. I didn't think the horse was anything special
when I first saw her. My instructor asked if I might be interested in the Arab filly.
I told her I Arabians were my favorite breed of horse. So, she told me the little black
filly had been left as payment of a debt. She said the previous owner had left her
tied to their fence in the middle of the night as payment. Skinny and shaggy the 3 year
old neglected little filly also semi wild. My instructor's son was going to take the
horse to auction to see what he could get per pound for her. My instructor pleaded
with me to buy the sad little horse and save her from an uncertain fate. So I talked
to my husband and the next day we bought her a little above "Meat Market Value". She
was skin and bones, had long matted brown fur hanging off of her, very long feet and
was barley halter broke. Despite all of this, she jumped right into our trailer like
she knew she was going somewhere good.
With in a few weeks, she was a changed horse. She started to change physically too.
With good food and worming, she lost her dull brown fur and the new fur came in
shinny, black, and soft as velvet. She gained about 150 pounds and grew 2 inches
in the first year we had her.
During this time I located her original owner and after a year of difficult conversations
over the phone I finally got Velvet's registration papers, for a large fee, that is.
Velvet has been worth every penny we spent on her. Velvet now has a new wonderful home and will be just as loved with ehr new family as she was with us.
