PORTFOLIO

    I am currenty employed as an Assistant Planner with the city of Greenwood Village, Colorado. Greenwood Village is an affluent city of approximately 15,000 on the extreme southern edge of the Denver Metro Area, and is the home of the high tech industry in Colorado. Some of the duties I have performed at the Village are:

  • Writing staff reports, technical papers, agendas, and memorandums;
  • Serving as project planner on several large-scale projects, including redevelopments;
  • Making presentations to the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustments, and City Council;
  • Preparing planning-related maps and graphics;
  • Staffing the zoning counter answering basic planning questions;
  • Utilizing the city GIS database for query and analysis;
  • Considering proposed business applications and approving, approving with conditions, or denying them;
  • Reviewing proposed project plans, and working with the applicants to see their project through to completion; and,
  • Many other tasks associated with working for a municipal government.
 Before my job with the Village, I was a Planner and Maps and Graphics expert for the City of Manitou Springs, Colorado. I began employment with Manitou in March 2002 after graduating Summa Cum Laude from CalPoly, San Luis Obispo, California, with a Bachelor's Degree in City and Regional Planning. I was drawn to the field of planning because I care about my environment and have a passion for great cities.

Prior to graduation I worked for one year for the City of Atascadero, California, where I did many of the above mentioned duties, as well as served as Code Enforcement Officer.

I also worked for one year for a local planning firm in San Luis Obispo, California, where I was a maps and graphics intern. During that time, I gained valuable experience in web design, GIS implementation, and digital image rendering.

Geographic Information Systems, a relatively new mapping technology, is a tool I have spent a considerable amount of time with. Some of my other computer skills include:
  • Experience with Windows based operating systems and the ability to perform minor troubleshooting.
  • Skill in designing and building computerized maps.
  • A strong working knowledge of ArcView GIS and the ability to use it for query and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Corel Draw 9. Actually, I used Corel Draw for a great deal of this website.
  • Aptitude with Adobe Photoshop.
  • Experience using MS Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • And the ability (obviously) to code and publish webpages in HTML.

   Here are some of the graphics I have created for work and school. The visual quality isn't the greatest because I had to compress these substantially to make them small enough to load quickly.

History

I spent five years in the Navy stationed in San Diego. I was assigned to an amphibious assault unit, Beachmaster Unit One, where I drove amphibious equipment and eventually supervised amphibious beach landings and salvage operations. Check out this cool Beachmaster Unit One Homepage!

After discharge I completed a medical assisting school and subsequently became employed in the clinical laboratory field. I managed several laboratory stations where I drew and processed blood, submitted insurance paperwork, performed quality control, ordered supplies, and became the assistant supervisor over 13 labs. During this time I attended junior college part time and got my associates degree in Social Science.
