Tips to avoid unwanted trips

Tuesday, August 3, 1999

Deciding to take a drug is one thing. Having someone slip something in your drink -- or "dose" you -- is quite another. There's no need to be paranoid, but if you don't like surprises, here are some ways to avoid trouble:

  • Politely refuse drinks (alcoholic and otherwise) from strangers, and avoid leaving your drink unattended.
  • Even if you're buying bottled water at a rave, make sure the seal on the cap is not broken.
  • The same goes for food. Take pre-packaged snacks with you.
  • Go with a buddy -- an extra set of eyes never hurts.
If you begin to feel drastically different than you should, based on what you've consumed, play it safe. Tell your buddy to get you out of there and take you to a hospital.
