Abraham Frick Biography and Civil War Narrative

Abraham Frick was born about 1826 in Baden (Germany). While still living in Baden, Abraham married Barbara. About 1850 they had a daughter named Barbara. Between 1850 and 1858 the family left Germany and settled in Hollywood Township, Carver County, Minnesota, where Abraham farmed. About 1858 a son, Andreas, was born in Minnesota.

1880 Plat MapOn September 3, 1864, at the age of 36, Abraham Frick enlisted in Company E of the 5th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Two and a half months later he fought and was wounded in the Battle of Nashville on December 16, 1864. From about January 1 to February 20, 1865, Abraham was in the hospital at Jefferson, Indiana, in the same ward as Michael Herrmann, who was also in Company E and was wounded at the Battle of Nashville. Abraham Frick was mustered out of the 5th Minnesota on June 15, 1865.

By 1870, Abraham had married Amalia (born about 1838 in Posen/Prussia). Abraham and Amalia had two daughters at the time: Berta (age 6) and Margarita (age 4), both born in Minnesota.

In 1880, Abraham owned a 120 acre farm in sections 29 and 32 of Hollywood Township, Carver County. Members of his household included his wife Amelia, his daughter Margaret (age 15), and another daughter Matilda (age 9). His farm surrounded the property of the Lutheran Church (built about 1872) where the pastor at the time was Rev. Frederick Boesche.

By 1889, when Abraham Frick gave an affidavit concerning rheumatism suffered by his hospital comrade, Michael Herrmann, Abraham reported his residence as Winsted, McLeod County, Minnesota.

Abraham Frick died on November 21, 1891, and is buried in McLeod County, Minnesota.
