Edward Reusse in the Civil War

Edward Reusse was born about 1830 or 1832 in Weimar (Germany). In July 1857, Edward married Clara Gruen in Carver County, Minnesota. Clara was born in Prussia about 1841, and Edward was born in Minnesota. At the time of the 1860 U.S. Census, Edward and Clara were farming in Benton Township, Carver County, Minnesota, and they had a 2-year-old son, Edward.

Reusse enlisted in Company D in September 1864 and participated in the military actions of the 5th Minnesota during the last year of the Civil War.

In 1873, Reusse built a two-story house "near the mill," completing it in August. He then rented out his farm. In the 1883 Pensioner census, an Edward Reusse is listed as residing in Chaska, Carver County, Minnesota. His cause for pension is "dis. of lungs." But the Carver County Historical Museum's online Newspaper Article Index shows an obituary for Edward Reusse published in the Weekly Valley Herald on June 29, 1882.
