Alone among the True Gods of Minarra, the Malangthan have no worshipers, no churches, and no songs to sing their praises…unless, of course, you count the metered fancies of the poet and the bard. The Divine Moons bear mortals no grudge for this apparent slight, for their true purpose transcends such petty concerns.

It was the Malangthan that watched over the nascent world, relishing the glory of the grand tapestry beneath them and chronicling every moment of its weaving. It was they who kept the sacred minutes of the council that forged the Covenant, and it was they who scribed the first editions of the Astarith and placed them into mortal hands. Since then, these curious, accommodating Powers have been content to serve as the watchers and divine heralds for all Minarra.

As divine beings who reside in the Material Plane, the Malangthan provide a ready conduit for the divine will of the rest of the True Gods. At the behest of the other Powers of the pantheon, the face of any or all of the Malangthan can change color, direct rays of brilliant light or hideous darkness upon the face of the world, or act as a "mirror" for the reflections of other Powers. Such potent omens, however, are usually intended but for a narrow sliver of Minarra’s mortal populace.

The Malangthan also serve their more powerful fellows as patient, tireless observers. They may be asked to mind, for example, the life of a babe as it grows into adulthood, or keep tabs on those beings that have the power to "change the world" for good or ill. Their observations are then related without distortion or commentary to their "clients" in the planes beyond. As neutral beings, the Malangthan play no favorites; Myr’phala, for example, might be in the "employ" of Lazev, Sha’rhiz, and Arzamark all at once, keeping the work she is doing for each in the strictest confidence.

The Nobility of the Night have no need for Avatars, and it is doubtful that they can assume any form beyond their own celestial orbs. It is a question few philosophers have bothered to ponder.

Since the rise of the Dragons, mortals have used the stately, measured pace of the Malangthan as a reliable measure of time. Most Minarran cultures define a "month" as a revolution of Sandophal, whose orbit requires 36 days to traverse. A few find use for the paces set by Myr’phala and Phalgeron, at 27 and 18 days respectively. (To learn more about the Malangthan as celestial bodies, click here.)
