POTIONS & OILS

Potion of Rigor Mortis: When imbibed, this potion gives the subject’s body the sallow semblance and fetid odor of a corpse. The skin becomes ashen, the body cools, and the limbs stiffen. Breathing and heart action become incredibly slow and shallow, and the pulse is virtually undetectable short of magical means. So complete is the effect that the subject is, in fact, on the verge of actual death (the base chance is 3% with an 18 Constitution, and increases 1% for every point of Constitution below 18). The roll is made upon imbibing, and if it fails, the subject is dead.

The potion's effect is determined by the quantity consumed. If but one third of the vial is used, the duration is but 3d4 turns. If two-thirds are taken, the effect lasts for 4d6 hours. If the entire vial is quaffed, the magic can last for 2d4 days. Once the potion wears off, full vigor is not restored for 2d3 rounds; during this time, the subject is severely confused and disoriented, making any sort of attack or flight problematic at best, and any form of spellcasting or device use impossible.
