RINGS

Ring of the Rangers: These smooth, featureless silver rings radiate a faint magical aura if detected for. When worn by a ranger, the ring bestows a bonus of +1 to hit and +1 damage to any melee or missile attack the ranger makes. If the attack is directed against the ranger’s species enemy, however, the bonuses are at +2. The ring also gives the ranger a 5% bonus to all move silently and hide in shadows rolls, and adds a 20% bonus to any tracking NWP rolls the ranger attempts.

Ring of the Rope: Unlike many other magic rings, the ring of the rope has a distinctive appearance: always of the purest platinum, the ring is fashioned to look like a coiled length of rope. When the proper command word is given, the ring creates a tough band of magical rope, whose length varies according to need.

The ring has three modes (each with their own command word), described below:

Binding: This mode will cause the rope to completely envelop the limbs of any human, demi-human, or humanoid being of size T through L if a saving throw vs. paralyzation is unsuccessful. The victim will be held fast for 1d4+2 rounds or until the wearer dispels the rope.

Lashing: In this mode, one end of the rope will wrap around any desired non-living object the wearer chooses up to 100 feet away, while the opposite end will wrap around either the wearer’s wrist or waist, as desired. If the object is moving, a successful "to hit" roll must be made by the wearer against AC 5, unadjusted by Strength or magical enhancements. While a successful roll indicates that the wearer is firmly secured to whatever is on the opposite end of the rope, the ring does not magically fix the wearer in place. (If the target is a retreating wagon, for example, the wearer is in for a very bumpy ride.) The maximum duration of this mode is one turn.

Spanning: This mode will create a rope bridge anchored upon any two objects and/or beings, for a distance of 10 to 100 feet. The distance to be spanned is determined by the wearer, but once set, it is fixed for the duration. The maximum duration of this mode is 5 rounds, +1 round per level of the wearer.

The ring can be used only three times per day. A rope can be broken only by a being possessing a 19 or greater Strength, or severed by a +2 or better weapon, or snapped by a suspended weight or other force equaling one ton or more. If a rope should part for any reason, the resulting magical backlash will capture the wearer for the maximum duration, and the ring will become inert for 5d4 days.
