Chrysania, Adept of the Sun
NG Elven Cleric [Linda
Merritt]: Of all the Companions, Linda's creation was
perhaps the most extreme in terms of personality, behavior, and
outlook.
The earliest manifestation of this servant of Illovia
the Healer was that of a somewhat uncertain yet hopeful young
priestess, full of energy and joie de vivre. But
before a year had passed, two encounters would drastically change
her life.
The first was her chance introduction
to one Tyrian Dweomermist.
So taken was she by this august individual that the Cruelty
instantly earned her undying hatred. Founder of the Let's Lynch
Dweomermist Society, Chrysania took every opportunity to get under
"Little Dimwit's" ashen gray skin. (She never
did manage to string up the Cruelty by his hooves, but if looks
could have killed...)
The second was her discovery
of the vast knowledge contained within the Library
of the Rats. Soon after the start of the quest proper, Chrysania
slowly transformed into a quiet, scholarly figure, becoming a
virtual ascetic by the end of the campaign. As time went by, she
came to regard the quest as a sideline to her own personal search
for knowledge, and gave her ministry scant attention.
Oh, yeah, one more thing: for
a character who hated weapons so much, Chrysania had the most
confounding habit of furnishing the killing stroke to any number
of nasty critters...
A role-playing sampler:
- In the early days of the campaign,
the Adept was hauled before a magistrate after spending an evening
in a Thyrristi jail on drunk and disorderly charges; the arresting
officer was none other than a temporary deputy called Sir
Russel of Tamlane! When asked what a priestess of the Order
was doing there in the first place, Chrysania cheerfully replied,
"To save Muggles!" Seeing the judge's bemused expression,
she picked up Muggles, the Companions' raccoon mascot, and placed
him on the bench so the critter could say howdy-do in person.
"Why do I get these cases?"
the judge moans, dropping his head in his hands...
- After working frantically to
save Sir Russel's life, the cheeky yet noble Knight
succumbed to the poison of the monstrous spider of the frozen
wastes. The blow was particularly bitter for the Adept, and sparked
a rather curious incident...
One morning, the Adept bounded
onto the deck of the Companions' ship, brandishing her sacred
rapier Sunshard like a pointy-eared Errol Flynn on speed. Her
golden vestments abandoned in favor of a borrowed suit of leather
armor, "Christine" boldly issued a playful challenge
to anyone on board for a few rounds of sparring. (Lashing her
to the spar would have been a better choice, as far as
the captain was concerned.)
As psychotic breaks go, this one
was kinda neat...
- Upon arriving in the city of
Aeris, the Adept learned that "Little Dimwit" himself
was also in town, in closed session with the rulers of the city.
Just knowing he was up to no good, Chrysania decided
to look in on the hatching of his latest nefarious plan...
Using her device-based ability
to polymorph, the Adept took the form of a raven and flew
up to a third-story window. The Cruelty was there, all right,
while one of his lackeys was showing off the plans of a warship
to some very interested locals. She flitted from window to windowfor
a good half hourwhile a sleepy-looking Dweomermist slowly
drew a bead on the nosy little "bird" with his staff
of office.
Then, like a striking serpent, the gray
elf snapped his head towards the bird, letting loose a power
word, stun of the first order. Her concentration broken,
the suddenly wingless elf took a rather graceless swan dive into
the flagstones below.
Things went pretty much downhill from
there, what with the espionage charges and all...
