The Band actually started out in the early 1980's when two old friends Tim Selbe and Roy Ullrich started experimenting with the idea of putting together a "Rock'n'Roll" band. They had absolutely no idea how far they would go. It started with the implementation of Jim Papin as rhythm guitar player. Then with the addition of Mike Cushing as drummer the guys thought they were destined for sure stardom. They searched for what they thought would be the perfect name and came up with "EVOLUTION." Man, they were "BIGTIME!" They even had shirts made up with their name on them. However, this combination soon turned out to be a mistake. Jim and Mike were into a completely different type of music than Tim and Roy. The guys were a bit discouraged but the search for the "Right" combination continued. Soon, a H-O-T drummer by the name of Jim Abeln came into the picture. Jim was probably the best drummer that Tim and Roy had ever heard. The boy was awesome! There was a problem however. Jim was only 15 years old. But with his talent who cared how old he was. Jim had a friend that played guitar. Ray Vuichard was the other guitar player the guys had been looking for. Not only could he play a mean guitar but he was also an excellent vocalist. The harmonies between Tim and Ray were a natural. Things just seemed to click automatically between the two. After much practice the boys were ready to take their show on the road. Only one problem. HOW? The guys then acquired a manager and booking agent. They were soon the hottest attraction from "Penn's Attractions" They were playing almost every weekend sometimes on the road. Soon, a serious problem arose. Roy, the co-founder of RMS decided to follow a different path. So, there they were searching for a Bass player. It just so happened that Ray's brother Steve was a bass player. He stepped right in. It seemed a sure bet that the band was truly going to be a success. It was said, "these guys are going places!" Then, Tim and Jim began to realize that there didn't seem to be enough money in the "Rock 'n' Roll biz." So, they decided to hook up with another popular St. Louis band by the name of "SISSY and THE CHEATERS." A well known and loved Country band. After playing as "CHEATERS" for awhile the band broke up. Tim and Jim then returned to their RMS roots with Ray and Steve. Things seemed to be going really well when the band received the news that Jim, the backbone of "RMS Rhythm," had just graduated from high school and was going away to college. This was a pitfall that proved to be "FATAL" for RMS. However, Tim, Ray, and Steve began holding auditions for Jim's replacement. Unfortunately, the trio could not find anyone that could possibly fill Jim's shoes. After many months of endless auditions, RMS as we know it came to a end.
