The Invisibility Field Generator is R&D's latest attempt to make the troubleshooter harder for commie mutant traitors to blast. In essance the IFGA generates a field around the wearer in a sort of "bubble" which bends light around itself. The effect is total invisibility. It works in any light, any terrain, and on any wearer who can fit within the sphere (which is 7 feet in diameter).
Part 1: How it really works.
Does it work? Yes. Does it make the wearer invisible? Yes. Does it do it the way R&D says it does? NO. Here's how it does what it seems to do: The belt creates a time-delay field. Within this field, everything is approx. 2 seconds behind everything else. The wearer, everything he has, and anything within the sphere are ten seconds behind reality. Now, only things totally immersed by the field, not just breaking the field, are affected (more on this later). The result is that the wearer is not there while he's wearing the belt because he's actually two seconds in the past. It takes ten seconds to warm up and shut down, which hides this fact. He can't be seen by people outside the field because the light beams in the now aren't hitting him and the light in the then is not totally immersed by the field. There are other more technical reasons which have been deleted for security reasons.
Part 2: Invisible my eye
Skeptics should instantly be impressed by this thing. For all intents and purposes it does exactly what it's supposed to do: make the wearer invisible. Just because R&D doesn't know why it works (they won't tell anyone that, though) has little to nothing to do with anything. The person wearing the belt will be hard pressed to notice anything at first, due to a bit of nausea caused by the field (he'll be warned) a slight fuzzy effect caused by the field (again: warned) and because it's only a 2 second delay. This probably won't be important until something that requires split second timing (read: a gunfight) happens. Also, because the belt uses an enormous amount of energy it can't be turned on for very long. Wise troubleshooters will leave it off until needed, at which time the side affects might become noticable.
Part 3: Buttons buttons buttons
The entire gizmo is simply one big button (the big dial) which goes from "off" to "on". That's it. The other lights are battery indicators and field regulators that won't be explained to the troubleshooter. The possessor will be told only:
- The thing only has about a twenty minute battery life.
- The big knob is "off" on the red side and "on" on the green.
- You'll feel nausea and have blurred vision.
- Taking off the belt while it's on is BAD.
- You can't shoot through the field.
- Damaging the box is BAD.
The box, when turned on, takes almost 10 seconds to totally make the wearer invisible. It's actually putting in slight time delays to take the wearer into the then. This makes him less and less visable until he's gone. Trying to shoot anyone in the field is impossible once they're gone, but has full effect up to that point. The reasons for this are too legnthy and brain-hurting to go over, just take my word on it. Basically, a laser can hit the person (although they become harder to see) as they are "fading" up until they become invisable, and then they cannot be hit. Note, however, that during this time the person wearing the belt can do anything they want. BUT, when the belt is bringing them back "unfading" they cannot move. They are losing the time they swiped and will remain still for the full ten seconds of power-down time.
Part 5: What might happen or damaging the box is bad
The box is a dangerous little device that will be abused by whoever is brave (read: dumb) enough to (read: forced to) use it. The person will do all sorts of nasty things that we all wish we could do while invisable. Most of these things are possible, given the meager 2 second delay. Anything that's moving, or that takes more than 2 seconds to complete, however, will possibly fail. Trying to sneak something into someone's backpack while they're moving is impossible, due to the fact that the person wearing the belt will be reaching for where the backpack was not where it is. If they figure this out, they can attempt to lead the bag, that is put whatever into where they believe the bag will be in two seconds, but they'll have to be damn impressive to do it. Also, trying to shoot anyone is right out, since the laser blasts won't pass through the field correctly. The person can set bombs, it'll just go off 2 seconds early, since when it passes outside of the field it will jump forward in time, and it was set 2 seconds in the past. This brings up the problem of taking off the belt. Should anything living try to pass fully through the field, it will be utterly and completely dead. There is no hope of saves, recovery, or any act of god on this one. Moving a living thing through the time field basically will stop all bodily function at the cellular level. The person will arive, perfectly fine, just totally dead. Damaging the box is also bad, and not just for the wearer. Should the box be damaged or destroyed, it will produce a time wave that will rip everything within 100 feet of the box into oblivion. Period. This is a no-save also. It's just plain ugly.
