• Ae: (1) A race of magical beings who were, according to legend, responsible for the Cataclysm.
  (2) A prefix representing early or first.
• Alanha: (Alanha Stetin Hoffadin) Rancher, lives West of Tivar. Friend of Bertegg, Wife of Sirus, mother to Getty and Tomha
• Arasen: (Arasen Botts) Apprentice Mage, member of the main party.
• Avendoor: Massive city located due south of Tivar in the Pass of Avendoor. The city is noteworthy as a trade port for the mining communities of the Southern reaches and for its immense fortifications.

• Bertegg: (Bertegg Collaras) Hunter, Trapper and member of the main company.
• Blue: Nickname for Vera du Konna
• Bridgetown: City located on the Malloron river and named for the massive span that allows the major caravan roads to travel East to Cattras, Tolero and beyond.

C

• Caravan Road: A series of major highways linking the main cities of the Dukedom of Tivar and its outlying countries. The caravan road provides an alternate route for goods, bypassing the Pennensula of Tsaris and escaping the notorious weather of the Bay of Rushes during the Winter.
• Cataclysm, The Great: A legendary magical event during the war of the Aether and Nether. According to the few surviving fragments of history, the Ae and Ne opened magical influx portals of such massive size that they intersected, rupturing the very fabric of reality and enfusing the world with a flood of uncontrolled magic.
• Cathnoma A Tohri War Dog adopted by the main party. The word "Cathnoma" roughly translates into "three legs" from Aroandistic.
• Cattras: City on the southern end of the Sea of Rushes, Northeast of Bridgetown, Southwest of Sartull. Subtreaty of Tivar. Noted for strong independant navy which polices the Bay of Rushes and Sea of Sorrin.
• Codo: (Watchguard First Class Dennison Codo) Member of the Watchguard that the main company meets at the first Watchtower on the Caravan Road.

D

• Dalton: Deity of the Lower Pantheon, responsible for farmers, crops and the land. Dalton is also generally paired with Urinosa as a deity of fertility. This has given rise to a number of popular swears in reference to Dalton's supposedly extraordinary virility and equipment of said verility. The history of the Dalton religion is known to be ancient but rarely recorded.
• Dar: Nickname for Radarias
• Dobson: (Watchguard Second Class Tenk Dobson): Watchguard that the main party meets at the first caravan watchtower.
• Dom: (1) The lower, peasant class of the Tohri. (2) The language of the lower Tohri class, noted for its reliance on musical note and cadence to describe words. A single noun such as "person" can be sung to indicate age, sex, status and the speaker/singer's personal views or opinions. Thus Dom Tohri is a very rapid and difficult to learn language. It is also impossible to write, given the vastly different meanings for the same words.

• Genjin: (Genjin Vat) Leader of a mining group that once worked the mountains northeast of Bridgetown
• Genit: Humanoid creature, student of Nira.
• Getty: (Getty Stetin) Youngest son of Sirus and Alanha and the only literate member of the family.
• Gorson: (Watchcommander Reginald Gorson) Watchcommander in Bridgetown.
• Great Reign, The: An extended period of relative peace for the Emprie starting in Urdis the Great's realm and lasting through 6 of his successors. Although it has become associated with dramatic improvements in science, magic and the lifestyles of the average citizens of the Empire, much of the peace came at the expense of drastic social laws and brutal repression. The improved science and magic were largely military in genesis, although many expanded to include other areas. When Urdis XIV implemented the widely popular reforms of the Act of Citizenry, the classic ideals of what many believe to be the Great Reign truly began. The Great Reign ended under the reign of Empress Sendo Kiv II when she invaded the Western Reaches in response to military build up there. The expansion of social ideals and expansion of knowledge would continue through several weaker emperors in the Kiv dynasty, only to collapse entirely.

• Henton: (Watchguard Sergent Henton Bassin) Sergent of Bridgetown, member of Patrol Thirtyfour.
• Hob: (Seenick Nomon) One-legged miner the main party meets in the mountain pass northeast of Bridgetown
• Huntsdelve: A loose assembly of city-states and regional townships that act under a combined army and a simplified rule of law.

• Jenk: (Lieutenant Jenk Androsin) Member of the main company.
• Joven: (Joven Brusse) Goat Rancher, neighbor of Sirus.

• Kalrop: (Lord Mayor Michevis Kalrop) The highest ranking member of the Mayor's council in Bridgetown.
• Kenv: (Major General Julius Kenv) The highest ranking general in the armies of Tivar and the personal advisor to the Duke.

L

• Lambent: Highest rank of the Holy Knights that once served the Lady of Light and her church. The position of "High Lambert" is the foremost among the Lamberts.
• Light of Dawn: The legendary sword of Lamberts, blessed by the Lady of the Light and representative of the position of High Lambert.
• Lookout Tower (Tohri):

  A simple watchtower constructed on location by the Tohri. The legs of the tower are usually the trunks of trees while the buildings made from pre-processed timber brought to the site. Access to the upper building is limited by a retractable ladder through a trapdoor in the center of the floor. Height: 32 feet Width: 10 feet Size: (lower) 16 square feet (upper) 12 square feet Personnel: 4

• Lunn: (Watchgaurd First Class Nimmos Lunn) Watchguard the party meets at the first Caravan Watchtower.

• Malloy: The surname of the Dukes of Tivar. Although the line technically broke when Duke Sentevaris Malloy died with no children, his neice took the name Malloy and continued the tradition as Dutchess Summer Malloy.
• Malloron: Major river that travels east, then north from Huntsdelve, past Bridgetown and empties into the Bay of Rushes.

• Ne: (1) A race of magical beings who were, according to legend, responsible for the Cataclysm.
  (2) A prefix representing late or last.
• Nira: Herbwoman and seer, friends with Alanha and lived East of her ranch.
• Novinan: The original name of the city of Tivar. Novinan started as a fishing villiage, but its excellent position along what would eventually become the caravan road combined with river access to the Sea of Sorrin caused Novinan to develop into a major city power before the end of the Empire. Afterwards, Lord Horrist named himself the first Duke of the Eastern Reaches and established Novinan as his capital.
• Novinan Bridge: Bridge across the Novinan river north of Tivar. The bridge is part of the Caravan Road.

O

• Outtown: The collective name of the suburbs surrounding the outer wall of Bridgetown. There are various sectional and regional names for parts of Outtown, but these are constantly changing, often contradictory and largely useless to anyone who does not live there.

• Ponsin (In'Tet Ponsin SivArnessonti): In'Tet (governor general) of the Siv invasion armies
• Portsow: (Watchguard Second Class Denri Portsow) Watchguard the main party meets at the first caravan road watchtower.
• Port Redcap: A major port city to the northeast of Tivar, noted for its complex and often contradictary import/export laws. The city was named for the dark red clay that forms the hills that the city was founded on which are often exposed by rain or weather and thus red-capped. The huge dockworking guild also wears red hats for warmth and protection, and this has given rise to the incorrect belief that their "caps" inspired the name of the city rather than the reverse.

• Radarias: (Lieutenant Radarias "Dar" Tist) Master Heat mage and member of the main company.
• Ren: (Ren Enri Bennisen) Initiate Monk and member of the main company.

• Sartull: City on the eastern edge of the Sorren Sea, noted for its famous bazaars and lax trade enforcement. Sartull legend as a smuggler's paradise is both partially true and exaggerated. A government of weak governors and a powerful oligarchy of trade unions has long established a free hand and blind eye to trade practices.
• Sevorin, Allosen: (Sevorin the Great) (142 - 202) A famed Lambert of the Lady of the Light. Sevorin became known as "The Great" after defeating the cursed High Lambert Tivar, slaying him with the blade of the High Lambert: the Light of Dawn. Sevorin refused the position of High Lambert four times, and was the only one ever to be offered the rank after Tivar's death.
• Sirus: (Sirus Stetin) Rancher who lives west of Tivar. Friend to Tegg, married to Alanha, father to Getty and Tomha.
• Siv: Describing the rank, class, verbal language or written language of the highest class of Tohri. Siv language is very percise and technical. In practice, all Siv words are compound joins of very specific nouns and adjectives making it somewhat longwinded and complex. It is perfect for legal or technical use, however, being nearly impossible to misrepresent what was meant by a word.
• Sorren, Sea of: The major sea north of the Bay of Rushes leading to the Great Ocean.

• Talbert: (Second Lieutenant Talbert Ironsiff) Member of the main company.
• Tegg: See Bertegg
• Tinsin: (Subcommander Adrian Tinsin) Commander in the Bridgetown Watchguard who assembles Patrol 34.
• Tivar:
  • The Dukedom of Tivar, built from the remnants of the Eastern Reaches of the Imperial Empire.
    
  • The capital city of the Dukedom of Tivar. The Duke of Tivar has been a member of the Malloy family for eleven generations. The city was originally named Novinan but was renamed in the year 189.
    
  • Tivar Olvesen Du'Kor (136 - 184) The last High Lambent of the Lady of Light. Lambent Tivar was killed in 184 by Lambent Allosen Sevorin (Sevorin the Great), relieving Tivar of his curse.
• Tohri: A race of humans living in the Tohri region. The Tohri are divided into the ruling Siv class supported by the larger and lesser Dom. The primary source of law, religion and social order, including the division of Dom from Siv, is the concept of "Ja", an overarching set of rules.

• Torgromis: (the Plague) Torgromis, generally referred to as "Grom", is a semi-mythical demonic entity blamed for all manner of bad luck and ill news. Most popularly referred to in descriptive curses often involving "By the hairy...". In reality, Torgromis is believed to have been a pre-Imperial healer who had the sad destiny of accidentally spreading the Redflush Plague that he was trying so hard to fight. Despite eventually finding a treatment to block the spread of the plague through water supplies, Torgromis was forever associated with the disease. Worse still was the fact that Redflush Plague had similar symptoms to several venerial diseases most often associated with prostitutes.

• Vallen: (Vallen Bael) Former smuggler and member of the main party.
• Vera: (Vera du Konna) Blueward Soldier, girlfriend of Arasen and Mistress of Konna Manor.

• Watchtower:

  A series of fortified watchtowers used to guard traffic along the Caravan Road between Tivar and Bridgetown. These were built to deter thieves during the early days of the caravan road's construction. Although never proven, it is widely believed that the shipping guild helped finance thief groups along this route during the construction and throughout the first few decades of the road's use. The watchtowers all but eliminated caravan theft, and were eventually abandoned when caravans started to employ individual guards.

Rank of the Bridgetown Watchguard
Bridgetown's army is collectively called the Watchguard. The highest rank is the Lord of the Watch, who controls the entire army and reports to the Mayor's council. There is no division of officers and enlisted, any soldier ranking at Subcommander or above is considered an officer. All ranks between Watchcommander and Subcommander are addressed informally as “Commander” if they are the only ranking soldier on the field. In formal situations, when multiple commanding ranks are present on a field, or if a commander is being referenced specifically the full title is used.

Unofficially, the Midcity Captain is the highest ranking, but officially all captains share the same rank.

Tivar Army Wards and Rank
The Tivar army is divided into "Wards" which are assigned colors. Members of each Ward wear color trimmed armor and insignia to indicate their Ward. Most divisions of troops have Red, Blue and Green present under the same commander.

Officers

• General
  Capital level rank, answers to the Duke.
• Major General: The highest rank of General, one that is rarely held by more than one person at a time. Major Generals tend to be the Duke's personal military advisor and the leader of Tivar's armies.
• (Captain) General: The standard rank for Generals after 3 years. The "captain" part is almost never used, but is the technical rank.
• Lieutenant General: The lowest permanent rank for a General, it is held for at least three years. Lieutenant Generals are then promoted to Captain General.
• Field General: Field General is a position held by a Major if a General has fallen in combat or if the Major is in the process of assuming the position and rank of a retiring General. It is never a permanent rank
• Lord General: A special honorary rank, generally granted posthumously or after a pouplar Major has retired from active service. There are no active Lord Generals.
• Colonel
  Colonels act as field commanders under the General on the field. Each Colonel has a military division under his command. There is no real distinction between the inner-ranks of Colonels, they represent degrees of seniority or promotion.

  The Major is a platoon leader or a division sub-commander. As with the Colonel, the internal ranks of Majors represent seniority or promotions rather than jobs.
