April 18, 2009 - Swan Island

The walk was mostly on paved paths, sidewalks and roadways on Swan Island, site of Portland’s first airport. Charles Lindbergh landed his plane here for the dedication 4 months after crossing the Atlantic.   Some of the walk is on the North Portland Greenway trail which in time will connect the St Johns Bridge with the East Bank Esplanade allowing walkers (bikes, etc.) the ability to go all the way to the Sellwood Bridge on paved paths.
