When I bought our trailer I also bought bunk-end "fan lights". Knowing I'd have to plug in the fan lights into the existing ceiling lighting fixtures, I used a mod. idea I've read about on a message board; a 12 volt mono. plug socket.

The light fixture to the left shows a double bulb light fixture with a 12 volt mono. plug socket. Only one of my two light fixtures came stock with this socket installed. The slide out dinette came with a place to plug in the "light only" fixture. (pictured below)

Radio Shack carries the socket in stock. I removed the light fixture that needed modified, drilled a hole for the socket, and soldered the new socket in. Retaining nuts, washers and a socket housing threaded externally, all work perfectly to attach the assembly to the plastic exterior of the light fixture.

The above is a rather small picture of the fan light. It has a reading light combined with a two-speed fan. It also has a unique two directional mounting system that will accept 3/4" or 1" tent supports. The unit has an eight-foot coil cord much like the dinette light pictured on the right.

Supplies for this mod. cost ~$7.00. Radio Shack stocks the mono. socket next to other stereo adaptor supplies.
