- Died in 1876 at age 37, a few weeks before her son,Elmer's, 18th birthday
- Executor of Mary's estate was George Dempster BEATTY, husband of Mary's cousin, Viola JAMES BEATTY.

- The 1860 census shows the son of William and Mary as what appears as "simon" or similar name.
- The 1870 census clearly shows the name as Elmer.
- according to his mothers newspaper obituary, Elmer left home a few weeks before his mothers
death, and was not present for the funeral.
- James D. Chamberlain, a local city official, was appointed guardian of Elmer, who was 17 at the time of Mary's death
- Elmer married Julia Warren, originally from Kansas, in Wasco County, Oregon.
- Elmer and Julia had 7 children;
- Two died in early childhood and are buried in Washougal, Washington.

- Elmer and Julia lived at Cape Horn, a rural area on the north shore of the Columbia River, about 25 miles east of Portland.
- Julia died around 1914 due to illness.
- Elmer was killed in 1918 in a railroad construction accident while building a logging railroad along Tide Creek
- Tide Creek is near the town of St.Helens, in Columbia County, Oregon.
- Elmer is buried at the same cemetery in Washougal, Washington.
- After Elmer's death, his son Ben lived with Julia's parents while daughters Abigail and Mrytle lived with and were later adopted by Julia's sister, Maude Gregg and her husband, Mark.
