For me quotes are not just cute little twists or a phrase but rather they are capsules of wisdom from which we can learn.  Taken out of context a quote can be powerfully misleading.  Taken in context they can be the greatest teachers.

Quotations by George Washington:

"The U.S. Constitution doesn't guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it." - George Washington

“It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.” George Washington's Farewell Speech Sept. 19, 1796

“Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thee and thy son, Jesus Christ.” George Washington

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity religion and morality are indispensable supports."  George Washington

"Without a humble imitation of the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, we can never hope to be a happy nation." George Washington

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth (and) keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them [guns] by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very
atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference [crime]. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour."
- George Washington address to the 1st Congress.

"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference -- they deserve a place of honor with all that is good."  - Geroge Washington

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."  - George Washington
