Meet Our Staff 

Scot M. Lynn – Intermediate/Middle Grades Teacher/Administrator

B.S - Elementary Education, Towson University

        Prior to opening NCCS in September of 2005, Scot spent four years teaching third and fourth grades in the Carroll County Public School System.  He is a graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  He has completed post-graduate work in Administration at McDaniel College.

 

Diane L. Havighurst – Administrator

B.A. - English, Muhlenberg College

Elementary Teaching Certification - Western Maryland College

        Diane taught third and fourth grades in the Carroll County Public School System for eight years until her departure to open NCCS in 2005.  After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Muhlenberg College, she completed her teaching certification requirements at McDaniel College.  She has completed post-graduate work in Curriculum and Instruction at McDaniel College.

 

Kristie M. Wright – Primary Teacher

B.S. - Early Childhood Education, Wesley College

        Kristie taught first grade in the Carroll County Public School System for two years.  Prior to this assignment, she taught kindergarten and first grade at a private school in Pennsylvania.  Kristie is a graduate of Wesley College.

 

Rebecca M. Beyer – Intermediate Teacher 

B.A. - Psychology, Johns Hopkins University

M.Ed. - Curriculum & Instruction, University of Illinois @ Chicago

          Rebecca holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Most recently, she was in charge of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Program at William Winchester Elementary School, implemented by Carroll County Public Schools.  

Karen M. Cigrang – Intermediate Teacher

B.S. - Elementary Education, Towson University

M.A. - Reading Instruction, McDaniel College

        Karen is a veteran of the Carroll County Public School System and arrived at NCCS after a leave of absence to remain home with her children. Karen is a graduate of Towson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  She has also completed graduate work in Reading at McDaniel College. 

 

Valerie Haynes - Middle Grades Teacher (Literature, History, Science/Mathematics)

B.S. - Liberal Studies, California State University, Stanislaus

              Having recently relocated from Modesto, California, Valerie is eager to begin working as the lead teacher with the Middle Graders at NCCS.  Her previous assignment was teaching literature and social studies to seventh graders in Tracy, California.  We are excited to have Valerie with us!

 

Laura Colson - Middle Grades Teacher (Geography & Government)

B.S. - Elementary Education, Western Maryland College

M.S. - Curriculum and Instruction, Western Maryland College

             After staying home to raise five children (four of whom attend NCCS!), Laura became an extremely active parent volunteer at our school.  She currently works with our oldest students on a part-time basis, as well as continuing to donate many hours of time as a volunteer.

 

Rachelle L. Saunders - Physical Education/Health Teacher/Administrator

B.S. - Physical Education & Health, West Virginia Wesleyan College

M.S. Physical Education, Health, and Sports Medicine, West Virginia University

              Beginning her third year at NCCS, Rachelle has become a valuable asset to the school.  Students across grade levels receive top-notch instruction in physical education and health.  A certified athletic trainer, Rachelle's skills in this area come in handy when injuries or accidents arise.

 

Theresa Wire - Vocal Music Teacher

B.S. - Music Education, Towson University

          Theresa joins us for a fourth year as our vocal and instrumental music teacher.  She has had a variety of experience working with students both in school and private settings.  We welcome her back.

 

Heidi Evans

B.A. - Studio Art/Art History & Education, McDaniel College

              Heidi is returning for her second year teaching Art at North Carroll Community school.  Creative, energetic, and patient, Heidi guides the students to love learning about famous artists and "trying their hands" at different media.  Before joining the staff at NCCS, Heidi taught art to home school students.

 

Sharon Evans - Administrative Assistant

          Sharon is the "glue" that holds us all together!  Responsible for everything from correspondence to greeting prospective students, to accounts receivable, Sharon is invaluable to all of the staff at NCCS.  Always smiling, always cheerful, we couldn't do our jobs without her!
