Lore and Memories

  • Largest OHO - 1998 - 246 "golfers" on the two Hartland 18 hole courses.

  • Themes over the years...each golfer represented...Birds, Saints, Criminals and Felons, Foods, Fish, Reptiles, Cities in Michigan, Mental Health Disorders, Cartoon Characters, Insects, Golfers, Diseases and for 2006, Medications.

  • Greatest Special Event - Sumo Wrestling Match between Tom "Fatty Ham" Eckert (victor) and Tom "Big Fat Round Red Tomato" Garrison. Second place - Football Passing Contest between Stevie "DWE" Hosmer and George Sellar. This ended in a pathetic draw as each former QB could not hit the suspended tire.

  • We have never been rained out but have had three delays...which did serious damage to the draft beer tab

  • Only Hole-In-One - David Swegles at the 2000 Outhouse.

  • Yearly $ raised for the Mongomery-Dumas Fund for needy Families and Children = $4-5000.00

  • Favors to all golfers over the years (with OHO Logo) include visors, golf hats, straw hat, balls, beach towel, shoe bag, golf purse, shirt, tee shirt, windbreaker, tees, mug, golf towels, blankets, OHO ball markers and for 2006, First Aid Kits.

  • "Worst shot I have ever seen award" of all time = Gerald Zager (deceased) hitting a horse in the right flank (ass) near the barn on #7 at Hartland Glen.

  • That same day, he nearly ended our chef's (Mike Mullane) life with a scud missile type shot into the BBQ area. This shot is named after Ron "9 Ball" Bush who hit a drive on #1 at Rolling Meadows struck the ladies tee, shot directly back into parking lot, struck three cars and came to rest under a pick-up truck, license # IMAHACK.

  • Rob Walters nose diving himself and cart in creek at Roseland G. C. ...then proceeding to Dooley's Lounge in Detroit and take gunfire to the leg.

  • Highest single round ever in OHO = 168 by Chris Caldwell, circa "75"

  • "Little Fella Hosmer's one skipper off a pond that struck Bob Szenecki in the ankle"...Down goes Szenecki".

  • Justin Kennedy disabling a cart on top of a tree stump.

  • Years ago we played a Night Owl Open at Roseland's par three course under the lights. Some highlights:

    • The two French Canadian Waitresses. Does anyone remember their names?

    • Manatee Kennedy telling B. Moore to "hit it fat" off a very soft teeing area which resulted in the largest and most mud laden divot seen by man.

    • Danny Jones yearly attempt to jump and clear the sewer filled creek on the Night Owl Course. He never made it and one year had to be wrapped in a tablecloth and somehow got through customs in Detroit at the bridge.
