| I asked
former Wind drummer Sam Masiello about the song
"Mysterious Ways"I knew there was a cool story about
it..Sam sent me this:
That song was written by
Irwin Levine who wrote "Tie A Yellow Ribbon" and "Knock
Three Times" for Tony Orlando. He had heard "Good Man" (Winds's
1977 45 "A Good Man's Hard To Find") on the radio and
liked our sound. he contacted our agent, Jack Fischer
and a meeting was arranged.
He gave us a real rough
cassette of him singing "Mysterious Ways" and wanted us
to record it. Wind did that demo version you have
recording the basic track in the basement of Joe's
(Joe's Recording Sudio, Trenton NJ) on Jeff Guenther's
(Wind bassist) 4 track and then moved upstairs to do the
vocals and percussion. I mixed it and took a copy to Mr.
Levine that night.
Irwin was a pretty cool guy who could hack out a few
guitar chords and his "demo" of "Mysterious Ways "that
he gave to us was comprised of pieces of the song that
he kind of strung together!! We then took that and made
a song out of it!!! He loved the Beatles and he
originally thought "Good Man" reminded him of a Beatles
sound, so I tried to include some Beatle sounding
elements to our Mysterious recordings! The deal went
sour when Irwin wanted 75% of the rights to Wind
originals and we declined!!
On a side note, I alerted
Sam to another Wind / Irwin Levine connection,
in 1969, Tony Orlando sang lead on a
single called "Make Believe" recorded by a studio band
called Wind. |
