I have added to the prediction trackers something that I am calling the computer adjusted line. I think this is going to be something that can compete against the line. Just as the line moves up or down when more people wager on one side, the computer adjusted line will move up or down as more computer systems pick one team or the other, or as the line changes. If the computers are all relatively split then the computer adjusted line is equal to the line.
If you consider the line the best prediction of the outcome then hopefully this will be a slight improvement to it. We'll see.

I was one of 6 co-authors on a paper that was published in August issue of Psychological Medicine. The title is "Influence of behavioral symptoms on rates of institutionalization for persons with Alzheimer’s disease". It was a long time coming, we did the work for this a full six years ago.

I am going to have a hard time keeping up with things this week. Instead of pages being updated in the mornings it may be late night every day.

As a statistician I found this news article to be very interesting. It is titled "Bayesian spam filters use math that works like magic"

Just looking at the NFL ratings last week I thought they would have a good week. They all looked very believable. It turns out I was wrong. The average had a bad 7-9 week.

My college picks last weekend were 3-1, that makes 7-4 on the season.
The NFL picks were not very good, 1-2. These picks also did poorly the first half of last season and then improved later in the season. That is opposite of the college picks which tend to do better the first half of the season.

My NCAA picks last week were 4-3.
My PerformanZ Ratings did not do very well in the first week. I had noticed that it was predicting several underdogs to win. But they didn't. My method of coming up with preseason ratings had worked well the last two seasons but it bombed this time. Even though things looked a little off I couldn't make any adjustments to it, otherwise it wouldn't be an objective measurement. The good news is that with just one week of games things look better. There are only a couple of questionable predictions this week, one of them being Wyoming by 8-10 points over Texas A&M. I know A&M looked terrible against Utah but they should still be able to beat Wyoming at home.

The NFL opens in two days. For the NFL week 1 my PerformanZ Ratings are going to use last year's final ratings.

One of the games that should have been on the list of picks below was Utah -8.5 over A&M. The average computer prediction was 16.5 and my own system had Utah favored by 22 points. Since I am an A&M grad I just couldn't pick them to lose by that many points. Turns out I should have. They looked terrible. They have to get rid of that qb.
