Harris Mt. Road to Bay Road

A moderate hike of 4.3 miles over the final hills of the Holyoke Range State Park. Parking is available on Harris Mt. Rd. Cross the road and hike east towards Bay Road. After a level start, the M-M trail climbs to the top of a hill, crosses under a powerline, climbs another hill then follows the ridge line NE. It and then descends very steeply onto Bay Road at 1.1 miles.

Bay Road to Orchard Rd.

Cross Bay road and go south. The M-M Trail reenters he forest just south of Wright Road. Turn left and climb steeply to the top of a hill, goes NNE over more level terrain before climbing once again. The trail then turns easterly and reaches a broad pleteau. It goes counterclockwise along the edge of the plateau before descending onto Orchard Rd.

Orchard Road to Route 9

A new development is not shown on the map. Cross Orchard Road and Federal Road onto Cheryl Circle (a newly developed area). The M-M trail follows Cheryl Circle. The street has a guardrail where it crosses a brook. The M-M trail turns left into the forest at the end of the guardrail. It crosses an active railroad track, follows Hop Brook upstream, crosses Hop Brook on a new bridge and climbs to Route 9.

If the land north of Cheryl Circle is now posted (March 2002), you may need to follow a re-route or detour along Federal Road (north or south) to Rt. 9 and Holland Glen.
