This is a relatively easy 1.54 mile hike through the northern section of the Metacomet Trail in Connecticut. The trailhead is at the junction of Connecticut Route 168 and Phelps Street. Parking is available on the east side of Rt. 168.

The trailhead is marked by a sign for Spencer Woods, which is owned and maintained by the Suffield Land Conservancy. You immediately begin a moderate westerly climb of about 150 feet to the top of a ridge. Once you turn south look to your left, at 0.35 miles, for views of the Connecticut River Valley, locally known as the Tobacco Valley. Further on, at 0.5 miles, near the southern end of the ridge and uphill to the left is a rest area with a chimney ruin and several benches. The trail then descends, crosses a small stream then ascends to the ridge of Suffield Mt. Continue along this ridge for one more mile until you reach the summit of Suffield Mountain. From the ledges you can enjoy some pretty views to the west.

The trail does not exit the ridge until state Route 20 in Granby, CT, about 3.5 miles to the south, so a loop back to the trailhead is impractical. Retrace your steps back to the parking area.
