Very limited parking space is available at the power line on North Leverett Road. The M-M trail ascends the power line north of North Leverett Road. After 0.7 miles the trail turns east, then northeast as it climbs Diamond Match Ridge. It traverses the ridge and then descends on an old wood road crossing a bridge over aptly named Red Brook. The trail then turns north and soon joins Hemmiway Road. Follow this road 1 mile to Montague Road. Reenter the woods and soon cross Brook Road. The trail then follows the western shore of Ruggles Pond. Continue along the pond until you reach the swimming area. The park HQ is up the hill to the west. You may return from here by following the old M-M Trail route. Go southwest on East Chestnut Hill Road to the power line. A shortcut south along the power line takes you to Richardson Road. The northern part of this road is flooded but a trail just to the west allows passage on higher ground. Follow Richardson Road south, parallel to Williams Brook, until you reach North Leverett Road. Turn left to get back to the start. |
